Areas of Diaspora Intervention in Health Sector

Support Needed Areas  

Somali Regional Health Bureau recognizes that its objectives and targets indicators cannot be achieved and met only by its efforts. Beside the regional interested donors and NGOs, the bureau also expects that diasporas and Somali-Ethiopian communities living in abroad can contribute a great input toward the achievement of the regional objectives and target indicators. Somali Regional Health Bureau identifies key priority areas that the bureau feels as a gap filling and Diasporas can make a difference. These areas include:- 

 

Supported Needed Area

1.     Establishment of Jijiga Referral hospital

Level of Priority by Somali Regional Health Bureau 1st Priority

·         Standard medical equipments

·         Hi-Tech Diagnostic facilities such as X-ray machines, laboratory equipments, ultrasound, CT Scanners etc.

·         Standard furniture’s and non medical equipments

·         Vehicles and ambulances

2.     Establishment of Gode Health Science College

Level of Priority by Somali Regional Health Bureau 1st Priority

·         Teaching aids and materials

·         Demonstration equipments and materials

·         Furniture’s and office equipments

·         Computers, printers, LCD projectors, slide projects, heavy duty photocopiers and other documentation facilities.

·         Textbooks, teaching references and other library facilities.

·         Laboratory facilities including microscopes, equipments, supplies and reagents

3.     Medical equipments for the existing hospitals

·         Standard medical equipments

·         Diagnostic facilities such as X-ray machines, laboratory equipments, ultrasound, etc.

·         Other non medical equipments

4.     Medical equipments for newly constructed Health Posts and Health Centres

·         Diagnostic facilities such as X-ray machines, laboratory equipments, etc.

·         Other non medical equipments

5.     Capacity Building to District Health Offices

Level of Priority by Somali Regional Health Bureau 2nd Priority

·         Computers, printers and photocopiers

·         Textbooks and reference materials

·         Office furniture’s

·         Financial support for short term trainings such as management training programs

6.     Construction of health posts in selected districts (Diaspora can see where there releteives and families are living. If they has no health posts, they can contribute the construction of health posts that is not more then 250,000 Birr)
