Jijiga, July 7 (CakaaraNews) – Deputy Prime Minister Addisu Legesse said encouraging results have been obtained from the efforts made to raise primary education coverage in Somali state.
Speaking at a meeting organized here on Tuesday to evaluate this year’s performances of the Somali state, Addisu said the Somali state has registered encouraging results in the education sector.
Addisu who commended the results attend in the education sector, added that a lot is expected from leadership at all levels to achieve full coverage and enable residents of the state get access to education service.
According to the report presented during the meeting, primary education coverage in Somali state has moved from 46.7 per cent last fiscal year to close to 63.8 percent this fiscal year.
School dropouts have also declined by 20 per cent. The report further said many school age children got access to education service owing to the establishment of 1,302 alternative basic education centers and school feeding programs carried out in 82 schools.
Education Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, on his part said the results registered this fiscal year is far better compared to the previous year.
Efforts need to be made to upgrade alternative basic education to the formal one, he said, adding the ministry would offer the necessary support for the education development program underway in the state.
