The Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) centre with Ethiopian Airlines received certificate from European Aviation Safety Agency enabling
it to maintain European aircrafts.
In a certificate it issued on 21 November 2011, EASA announced facilities and processes of Ethiopian’s MRO centre are in full compliance with international standards.
Briefing reporters on Friday, Chief Operating Officer of Ethiopian, Mesfin Tassew said the certificate authorizes Ethiopian to repair airplanes and aircraft components of airliners registered under all European Union member states.
According to the Officer, the approval known as Part 145 also enables Ethiopian to issue certificate in the name of EASA.
Mesfin said line, airframe and component maintenances for Boeing-707 and Boeing-757 fleet are included in the current approved scope.
The approval enables Ethiopian to provide maintenance service for more airline customers in Africa, Middle East, and possibly Europe.
1500 technicians of Ethiopian maintain the aircrafts in three hungers; the Airliner is also due to build its fourth hunger.
Meanwhile Ethiopian’s MRO centre has inaugurated its new wheal and brake shop.
