Somali Refugees Describe Ethiopia Second Home

Addis Ababa, July 29 (WIC) - Somali refugees residing in Addis Ababa have described Ethiopia safe haven and their second where they are living freely like Ethiopian nationals with out any discrimination.

Founding Chairman of the Somali Community Literacy Center (SCLC), Mohamed Mohamed Sheikh, told WIC yesterday they found Ethiopia the most suitable place to escape the hard times they faced due to the extended conflicts in their country.

Mohamed also indicated that the Ethiopian government has been providing the necessary assistance since the collapse the Siad Barre government before 16 years.

The local administrations of the Addis Ababa city have always provided the necessary support for the 30,000 Somalis in the city, the Chairman said.

He also pointed out that the literacy center registered close to 6,000 Somalis in Addis Ababa and provided Identification Cards so that they can get passports.

He also said that Somalis in Ethiopia are contributing their share, along side the international community including Ethiopia, to bring about a lasting peace in Somalia.

Mohamed Isse Hamud, a Somali business person working in Addis, also said that Ethiopia is a suitable place for Somalis to engage in investment activities.

He indicated that he has owned a transport and pharmaceutical companies in Addis Ababa, describing the Ethiopian government and the people cooperative and friendly.

He also appreciated the support of the Ethiopian government provided to the refugees of the Somali so that the latter can move freely out of refugee camps.
