Standing Committee probes six-month performance of ERA

Addis-ababa(CakaraNews)The Pastoralist Affairs Standing Committee with the House of Peoples Representatives on Wednesday probed the six-month performance of the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) in pastoralist areas. Briefing the Committee, officials from ERA said the Authority has managed to construct, renovate and upgrade 287.3 kilometres of road. The figure stands for 84.7 percent of the midterm road plan for the pastoralist areas of the country. While the budget allocated for road projects in stated areas was 2.6 billion Birr, ERA has so far spent 2.7 billion Birr on the projects, the officials told the Committee. They also said the Authority has been facing challenges associated with underperformance of contractors and high turnover of employees. The Standing Committee hailed the achievements of ERA and urged it to work harder particularly in connecting districts in the pastoral areas with localities.
