EPRDF reviews six-month activities undertaken in rural and urban areas

Addis-Ababa)CakaraNews).Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) Executive Committee reviewed on Sunday activities undertaken in rural and urban areas over the past six-month in its one day regular session. The Executive Committee evaluated agriculture activities carried out during the last rainy season to increase productivity and identified practices need to be built up on for preparations to be made in this dry season. The Session saw skill and attitude focused trainings provided to the leadership and farmers as encouraging. The Committee said the commitment farmers have shown in natural resource conservation is promising and should continue, adding, it would make degraded environments rejuvenate, thereby protecting soil erosion. The work of natural resource conservation would enable to feed livestock as well as create agriculture related job opportunities for youths. In this regard, the session agreed best practices registered in Tigray State have to be built up on and advanced in other regions. The Meeting also saw activities underway to make every farmer use traditional irrigation and at least one water harnessing technology as promising. The Session said the practice would make farmers produce two and three times a year and need to be expanded. The Committee set directions on works need to be done in this dry season emphasizing maximized preparations for the agriculture works. In its review of works done in urban areas, the Executive Committee said activities undertaken in the areas of good governance and creating job opportunity for many citizens is encouraging. It also passed decisions on the works to be done for the realization of the plan to create job opportunity for hundreds of thousands of youths and women in new factories, construction of houses, universities and roads as well as cobble-stone flooring works. The Session saw the community’s participation in improving the service giving system as positive and said should be strengthened. It also discussed on ways of avoiding corruption and problems related to service giving in urban areas.
