AU leaders hold talks on various issues of the continent in Benin

Addis-Ababa(CakaaraNews).African Heads of State and Government including Prime Minister Meles Zenawi held discussions on Saturday in Cotonou, Benin on various issues of the continent.
Fourteen African Heads of State and Government attended the closed door meeting in Cotonou called by Benin’s President Yayi Boni, Current Chairperson of AU, to discuss a road map for the AU, as well as the management of strategic partnerships between Africa and the rest of the world.
It is also said the Heads of State and Government discussed the security situation on the continent.
President Yayi Boni, hailed the presence of his peers as the expression of the importance they give to the cause of the continent at a time when Africa is facing different challenges.
The meeting reviewed various security situations in the continent including the rebellion in northern Mali, the piracy in Somalia, among others.
In addition to the issues of peace and security, the AU Heads of State and Government have looked into good governance, democracy and the creation of a free trade zone on the continent to develop intra-African trade.
Prime Minister Meles was back in Addis Ababa on Saturday night after attending the summit.
