Fiqi Omar Community Congratulates The New President Abdi Mohamed Omar, Calls For President To Make His Number One Agenda To Attend the Needs Of the Raaso Region.
The Fiqi Omar (Sheekhaal) Community takes this opportunity to congratulate the newly elected president of the Somali Regional State Mr. Abdi Mohamed Omar. The community welcomes the president’s appointment, and hereby affirms the Sheekhal community’s loyalty and commitment to work with the president and his new administration to solve the Somali Region’s challenging problems.
The challenges facing the new administration are many: Security, access to education and Health, Food Security, good governance, limiting corruption, and expanding government services to the expansive region. Though the Sheekhal Community recognizes the daunting many challenges facing the president and the administration he will install in the coming days and weeks, this community believes nothing is more pressing than bringing to a resolution the political wilderness of the Raaso region and its more than quarter million inhabitants.
The Federal government and the Sheekhaal Community have for the past 4 years been trying a just political solution for the community and have tabled several proposals but the administration of Da’ud Mohamed have been a roadblock to every effort or solution, often injecting poisonous clan politics for political expedience.
To reach a fair political solution for the community’s political grievances requires the region’s president to provide real leadership and political courage. The community would like to remind the president Abdi Mohamed Omar that he himself has acknowledged the plight of the Sheekhal clan, and has promised action to fix the clan’s injustice when the community met the president in London in his last visit.
The Sheekhal community on the other hand has accepted the president’s appeal for support in the London meeting and has been engaged ever since in the strengthening of the Somali regional State despite the clan’s grievances against the previous administration.
We believe and are confident given the track record of the president in his previous capacity to bring much needed security to the region, his willingness to listen citizens and demonstrated courage to act boldly when required, that he will do the right thing for the Sheekhal community and the citizens of the Somali regional State.
We are confident that the president will make Raaso region his priority and top of his agenda. We hope the president will convene a meeting with clan elders in Jigjiga or Raaso as soon as he completes forming his administration and that the community will be well represented in his new cabinet. We are counting on the president that his administration will be different and act in the best interest of the region and its citizens.
We hope the president will rise above partisan clan politics and do what’s right, and act in the best interest of our citizens. Once again, we congratulate the president and wish him good luck. He is faced with a mountain of difficult challenges but we are confident he is up to the challenge. The president should know that he has our support and we are praying for him to succeed for the good of our citizens and region.
Dr. Ahmed Sheikh, Executive president Fiqi Omar Political Action Committe of North America (FOPAC)
