Ministry eyes to earn 1.3 bln. USD from export of industry products

Addis Ababa September 27/2013 The Ministry of Industry announced plan to secure 1.3 billion USD from export of industrial products during the current Ethiopian budget year. Industry Minister Ahmed Abtew said at a press conference organized on the performance of the 2005E.C budget year and action plan for the current budget year that the stated sum will be secured from export of textile and garment, leather and leather products, agro-processing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, among others.

Ahmed said the plan is designed taking into consideration performance during the last three years. He said lack of quality of products and skilled human power as well low productivity were the major challenges in the manufacturing sector.

Ahmed said activities will be carried out to narrow the gaps through creating skilled human power and linking micro and small-scale enterprises with medium and large industries.

The Minister said prime attention will be given to creating market ties, ensuring quality of products as well as to put in place efficient finance and logistics services during the current budget year for the same goal.

Ahmed also called on all sides to contribute share in the efforts to increase production capacity of industries.
